Another Mothering Milestone

Years ago when the kids were small and all consuming, a wise friend tried to explain to me that when you have children, the days are long but the years go fast. After just dropping off this 5 foot 11 (and rapidly growing) guy off for his first day of high school, the truth of those words are really sinking in.

One day we are sleep deprived, spread too thin, starved for alone time and fully saturated with hugs and an unquestionable connection to our little ones and the next it can be a struggle just to get them to spend time with us.

We attempt to make due with the occasional tense hug, try to figure out how we suddenly became so intolerably uncool and tend to the heartbreak of letting them go. Sigh... another step on the vulnerable and enlightening journey of motherhood.
